A Possible Children’s Illustrated Books Timeline

Picture Books that Made History in the Twentieth Century

04 - The Arabian Nights Illustrated by Edmund Dulac

Compilation, research and translation by Estela Agudelo

Arabian Nights  is a collection of West and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. Is a treasure of world literature full of extraordinary stories, which describe India, Persia, Syria, China and Egypt.

Although it is believed that the first edition dates from the ninth century, and although the first English language edition was done in 1706, I bring it up as one of the picture books than make history in the twentieth century, because only until 1907 was printed the beautiful edition illustrated by the French artist Edmund Dulac. which included fifty incredible color illustrations.
